REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES

Authority to Register Candidates

The Council may accept, refuse or impose conditions on the registrations of any candidate or class of candidates to the Council’s examinations.

The Council recognizes the right of each of the participating governments to impose local restrictions and conditions affecting the eligibility of persons resident in its territory to be presented as candidates in its territory.  The Council will not in any circumstances enter into correspondence with an applicant (or a person acting on behalf of an applicant) whose application for registration has been refused by a Local Registrar or rejected by the Council.

The authority to register candidates in each territory is vested in the Office of the Local Registrar which is usually located in the Ministry of Education.  In the case of Jamaica, the Office of the Local Registrar is located in the Overseas Examinations Commission.

An educational institution desirous of entering candidates for any of the Council’s examinations must first be registered as an examination centre at the Office of the Local Registrar.  An individual desirous of entering as a candidate for any of the Council’s examinations, unless otherwise registered at an examination centre, must be registered at an examination centre operated by the Office of the Local Registrar as a private candidate.

Method of Registration

The registration of candidates must be done online using the latest release of the Online Registration System (ORS) software application.  The ORS application can be accessed from the Council’s website, https://ors.cxc.org/.  The Council will only accept registration data from examination centres sent via the Office of the Local Registrar.

Deadlines for the Submission of Registration Data

Deadlines by which candidates must register for examinations offered by the Council are determined by the Local Registrar in each territory.  As a general guide, the deadline for the submission of candidate entries for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate® (CSEC) January sitting is usually in the month of September of the year preceding the examinations.  The deadline for the submission of candidate entries for the CSEC® and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination® (CAPE) May-June sittings is usually in the month of November of the year preceding the examinations.  The deadline for the submission of candidate entries for the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence® (CCSLC) June sitting is usually in the month of December of the year preceding the examinations.  Institutions and prospective candidates should contact the Local Registrar in their territory for the specific deadline dates by which registration must be completed.

Late Registration and Amendments to Candidates' Registration Data

Late entries will NOT normally be accepted by the Council.  However, institutions and prospective candidates should contact the Local Registrar in their territory to ascertain the conditions under which late entries and amendments to candidates’ registration data are accepted.

SCALE OF FEES

The scale of fees charged by the Council is given below.  The fees are denoted in Barbados dollars (BDS$2 = US$1) and are subject to change in accordance with the Council’s policy.  The Local Registrar in each territory reserves the right to impose additional charges (normally referred to as local fees) to off-set the administrative costs that incur in the registration of candidates for, and in the administration of, the examinations.  An External Territory is any territory or country that is not a signatory to the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Examinations Council.
