ACTI Elects New President

The Association of Caribbean Tertiary Institutions (ACTI) elected a new President to serve for the next two years at its Annual General Meeting and Conference in Miami on Thursday 22 and Friday 24 February.

The meeting discussed ACTI’s strategic plan and also received presentations from Mrs Myrna Bernard of CARICOM on the CARICOM Human Resource Development Strategy; Dr Donna Powell Wilson – Executive Director, Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica; Dr David Rampersad presented on regional economic stimulation and the involvement of tertiary learning institutions and international development partners, and on the Colleges of the University of the West Indies.

Mr Nigel Scott, Principal of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College was elected President. Scott replaces Dr Karl Dawson, current President of the Anguilla Community College. Dr Duranda Greene, President of the Bermuda College was re-elected First Vice President and Mr Henderson Thompson, Director of the Barbados Vocational Training Board was elected as Second Vice President. Mr Philmore McCarthy, Principal of Excelsior Community College, Jamaica was elected Treasurer.
CXC was represented at the meeting by Cleveland Sam, Assistant Registrar – Public Information and Customer Services.
