Nelson Thornes met its contractual obligations to CXC under the publishing agreement and plans are being put in place to ensure all appropriate stakeholders receive sample copies of the published Study Guides.

Fifteen Study Guides were published and made available for purchase through a number of bookstores throughout the region. These were: CSEC English A, English B, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Office Administration, Principles of Business and Social Studies; and CAPE Accounting Units 1 and 2, Biology Unit 1, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry Unit 1, Communication Studies and Economics Unit 1.

To raise awareness, launch events of these Study Guides took place in June in Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. The events were promoted via the Nelson Thornes and CXC websites as well as Facebook. Feedback was positive and bookstores reported a steady increase in orders.

Eight planning workshops for new Study Guides were held during the year. These included workshops for CSEC Biology, Chemistry, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, and Physics; and Caribbean Studies, Environmental Science Units 1 and 2, History Units 1 and 2, and Management of Business Units 1 and 2 for CAPE. Teams comprised professional authors from the Caribbean and the UK as well as regional educational professionals. Additional titles will be published on a phased basis up to 2015.

The main goal of the CXC-Nelson Thornes collaboration is to provide support resources for candidates taking CXC examinations. The materials therefore provide content organised to match the specific objectives, knowledge and core competencies outlined in the relevant syllabuses.
