A combination of learning and development initiatives within the Human Resource Division has provided the framework for the organization’s capacity to achieve through people.

The Human Resource Division continued to provide financial support for membership fees in professional associations and attendance at conferences in several fields. This assisted staff in remaining up-to-date with the various developments in the various areas – particularly in areas related to Education and Assessment: Mrs Leona Emtage attended the Caribbean Conference on TVET in Montego Bay, Jamaica; Mrs Donna Giles and Mrs Maureen Grazette attended the American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference in Vancouver, Canada; Mrs Susan Giles attended and made a presentation at the Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators (ACHEA) conference in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; Dr Gordon Harewood and Dr Anthony Haynes attended the European Association of Test Publishers (E-ATP) conference in Berlin, Germany; Dr Didacus Jules, Mr Glenroy Cumberbatch and Ms Benita Byer attended the International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) conference in Astana, Kazakhstan; Ms Patricia Clarke and Ms Marjorie Lewis attended the American Society of Administrative Professionals (ASAP) conference in Orlando, Florida; Mrs Mildred Daniel attended the American Records Management Association (ARMA) conference in Chicago, Illinois; Dr Yolande Wright attended the CANQATE conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica; and at the invitation of the Ministry of Education in Finland, Dr Carol Granston visited Finland to gain knowledge about its educational system.

Organizational Goals

In keeping with the goal to leverage information and communications technology and make CXC an IT intelligent organization, staff members from our Information Systems Division participated in several courses and also completed internal learning and development workshops to assist staff in the use of some of the newer software that were implemented.

With respect to delivering world class syllabuses and examinations, along with the participation of staff in Educational conferences, Ms Cynrdra Ramsundar participated in a Proofreading and Editorial skills Course at Chapter House Publishing in the United Kingdom, and Mr Cleveland Sam began a four-course Editing certification online programme with UC Berkeley Continuing Education Department.

Dr Hamilton Jemmott attended the Academy on Skills Development hosted by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation (ITCILO) in Turin, Italy.

Mr Cleveland Sam and Ms Simone Pasmore attended a one-week course on Effective Stakeholder Management at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in November.

Council also continued to support persons enrolled in various programmes such as the BIMAP Diploma.
