After two months of hands on experience working with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), the eight interns of the 2017 Student Attachment/ Internship Programme today said their goodbyes to CXC.

This year, the council revamped its student attachment programme which saw the largest number of interns thus far representing tertiary institutions around the island. On 1 June 2017, the interns were placed in each department to gather real world knowledge about their career fields of choice, as preparation for the world of work.

Registrar of CXC, Glenroy Cumberbatch told those at the Farewell Ceremony held for the interns, that he was happy to have them, and happier to see them go, accepting and appreciating their various contributions.

“This is one area that occurred this year that is of great interest and great excitement to us at the Caribbean Examinations Council…we really made a concerted effort to select person carefully, to bring them into an environment where I am sure they would have enjoyed,” Cumberbatch said.

He also advised the interns that due to the high rates of unemployment in the region, they should prepare to find work for themselves if the situation arises. While wishing them well in their future endeavours, he hoped that they would remember the critical values that were taught at CXC as they go on to become effective workers.

The interns were challenged to deliver speeches where they shared their experience at CXC and thanked their supervisors and co-works who would have played various roles in making the internship successful. The also participated in CXC jeopardy to test their knowledge of the council and presented a farewell video to staff.

The internship officially comes to an end on Monday 31 July 2017.
