As part of its stakeholder relationship management programme, CXC hosted one-day meeting with members of the Association of Public Primary School Principals in Barbados. The meeting was held on Thursday 21 September at CXC Headquarters.
Registrar of CXC, Mr Glenroy Cumberbatch presented a session entitled “Raising Academic Achievement” in which he stressed the virtues of using continuous assessment in the suite of assessment methods. The session stimulated robust discussion on the state of assessment in primary schools.
Assistant Registrar in the Examinations Development and Production Division, Mrs Benita Byer-Bowen made a presentation on the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA). During the presentation, principals were given samples of pupils’ projects and book reports to scrutinize.
The principals agreed that the CPEA methodology was in fact very useful and should be implemented in primary schools. Some principals indicated that their schools have started experimenting with continuous assessment.
