A team from the Confucius Institute at The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus met with a team from CXC on Tuesday 4 October at CXC Headquarters. The two-member team comprised Co-Directors Mr Francois Jackman and Dr Qingbao Song.

During the meeting the both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and how they can collaborate on various initiatives. Registrar of CXC Mr Glenroy Cumberbatch informed the meeting that CXC plans to offer Mandarin at CCSLC and CSEC in 2017/2018 and would like the support and guidance of the institute.

Among the areas of collaboration discussed with the institute were:

1. Provision of persons to serve on committees and panels
2. Training of teachers in the region to deliver the Mandarin syllabus
3. Providing a prize/s for top performer/s in mandarin
4. Providing Mandarin training/classes for CXC staff if sufficient persons are interested
