Over 150 Attend Parents and Students Workshop

Over 150 parents and third and fourth form students from Barbados attended the workshop entitled “Help Me Pass with Flying Colours” held on Saturday 19 August at the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, UWI Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

The interactive half-day session dealt with management of School Base Assessment (SBA), CXC suite of qualifications, subject selection and career planning, roles of the Ministry of Education and CXC learning support resources.

Presenters included Janice Jemmott and Margaret Grant from the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors; Dr Sonja Gift, from UWI Cave Hill Campus Recruitment and Marketing Office; Dr Roderick Rudder, Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation; James Young and Cleveland Sam from CXC; and Donna Sealy, a parent.

CXC’s Karene Graham pitted the students against their parents in a quiz game called “Are you Smarter than a third former?” The parents proved that they are in fact smarter than their third formers.
