CXC® Awards Regional Top Performers in 2021 CSEC®, CCSLC® and CPEA™

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Regional students continue to excel in the examinations of the Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®). Following the June/July 2021 sitting of Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC®) and Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence® (CCSLC®) examinations, CXC® is pleased to release the list of Regional Top Awardees who are being recognised for their outstanding performances.

 

Zaynab Shaffie of Queen’s College in Guyana has emerged as the winner of the Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®) regional award for the Most Outstanding Performance Overall in Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate® (CSEC®) examinations for 2021. Zaynab achieved Grade I in 18 subjects and Grade II in 2 subjects. She achieved Grade I in Biology, Chemistry, English A, English B, French, Geography, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Office Administration, Physics, Principles of Business, Religious Education, Social Studies, Spanish, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Human and Social Biology, and Food, Nutrition and Health. She also achieved Grade II in Additional Mathematics and Economics.

 

Naresh Jagnanan of Essequibo Islands Secondary School in Guyana won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance in Business Education. He achieved Grade I in Economics, Office Administration, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Caribbean History, English A, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Physical Education and Sport.

 

In the area of Technical and Vocational studies, Sarena Razak of Queen’s College in Guyana secured the award for the Most Outstanding Performance. She achieved Grade I in Information Technology, Textiles, Clothing and Fashion, Technical Drawing, Industrial Technology (Electrical), Industrial Technology (Mechanical), Industrial Technology (Building), Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English A, English B, Geography, Integrated Science, Physics, Principles of Business, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Physical Education and Sport, Human and Social Biology and Additional Mathematics. She achieved Grade II in Caribbean History and Social Studies and Grade III in French.

 

Roshni Samaroo of Queen’s College in Guyana achieved Grade I in all of her subjects and won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance in Humanities. She achieved Grade I in Caribbean History, English B, Geography, Religious Education, Social Studies, Spanish, Economics, English A, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Office Administration, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Human and Social Biology and Additional Mathematics.

 

In the area of Creative and Expressive Art, Danielle Suite of St Augustine Girls’ High School in Trinidad and Tobago won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance. Danielle achieved Grade I in Music, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts, English A, Information Technology, Mathematics and Technical Drawing and Grade II in Physics and Additional Mathematics.

 

The award for Most Outstanding Performance in Sciences went to Rochelle Griffith of St Joseph’s Convent (St George’s) in Grenada. Rochelle achieved all Grade I results in 13 subjects. These included Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science, Physics, Human and Social Biology, Additional Mathematics, English A, English B, French, Information Technology, Mathematics, Principles of Business and Technical Drawing.

 

Students also earned Awards in individual subjects. Anaya Felix of the Bishop Anstey High School East and Joshua Brailey of A.S.J.A. Boys’ College Charlieville, both in Trinidad and Tobago, won the awards for Most Outstanding Short Story and Most Outstanding Performance in Visual Arts 2D, respectively. The award for Most Outstanding Performance in Visual Arts 3D was won by Patrina Hall of the Merl Grove High School in Jamaica. Nazaria Alexander-Williams of St Joseph’s Convent (St. George’s) Grenada earned the CXC® award for Outstanding Performance in Principles of Accounts.

 

Students were also rewarded in individual subjects by partnering sponsors. Tashana Riley of Bishop Anstey High School East in Trinidad and Tobago won the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Principles of Accounts and Roshane Roach of Campion College in Jamaica won the University of Guyana’s Menezes-Rodney Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Caribbean History.

 

The top awards for Most Outstanding Performance in the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence® (CCSLC®) examinations were both won by students from the Commonwealth of Dominica. The Most Outstanding Female Student is Tana Valmond of Dominica Grammar School. Tana achieved grades of Master in English and Mathematics as well as Grade I in CSEC® Principles of Business, Visual Arts and Physical Education and Sport. Jason Joseph of Castle Bruce Secondary School won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance by a Male student. He achieved grades of Master in English and Mathematics, Grade I in CSEC® Agricultural Science, Grade II in CSEC® Principles of Accounts and Grade III in CSEC® Information Technology.

 

This year’s ceremony will also feature the winner of the 2020/2021 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment™ (CPEA™) Story Writing Competition – Tre Sparks St Bernard of Alpha Junior School in Grenada. His winning entry entitled “Legend of Grenada’s Blue Donkey” is featured in e-book format on CXC’s website with a selection of other regional entries.

These outstanding students will receive their awards during a virtual Regional Top Awards Ceremony, hosted by The Virgin Islands (British), on Thursday, 10 February 2022. Queen’s College of Guyana will receive the awards for both CSEC® and CAPE® School of the Year 2021.
