The Human Resource Department has embarked on a campaign to encourage staff to get moving and lead a healthy lifestyle in 2017. To this end, staff had the opportunity to support various corporate responsibility initiatives promoted by HR. One such event is the annual 5K Run and Walk, “Aware to Care”, which raises funds for those who have to deal with the challenges associated with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados, is a Charity established to help those families affected by Cystic Fibrosis (CF) through awareness building, medical access and financial assistance for coping with the extremely high expenses associated with this illness.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SIGMA 2017
Members of the Western Zone Office participated in the annual Sagicor SIGMA Corporate Run/Walk on Sunday 19 February 2017. CXC’s participation aided in the event raising over $50 million in cash and kind for children in need. For the 2017 staging proceeds went towards the following entities:

The Bethlehem Home for Abandoned Children, (Operated by Missionaries of the Poor) – The Home requires structural repairs to its dormitories as well as equipment and supplies, to include wheelchairs, walkers and transportation to medical facilities. The Home caters to the needs of babies and children who have been abandoned due to physical and other disabilities. Funds raised through the Sigma Run will help to improve the quality of care for those at the institution.

The Spanish Town Hospital Special Care Unit – The Spanish Town Hospital is the only major hospital serving the St. Catherine Parish. It requires several pieces of equipment to improve the delivery and quality of care for newborns and young children treated at their special care unit.

The Mandeville Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – The Unit is in need of point-of care arterial blood gas machines and pediatric blood pressure machines, as well as vital monitors to support babies and children treated at the unit.

We extend a big thank you, to all staff and guests who supported this worthy cause. See you in 2018 for the 20th staging when we hope to have a bigger and better showing from team CXC!

The Western Zone Office staged its annual Staff Day with a Difference (DWAD) on Friday 22 September 2017. At this year’s staging WZO played host to the Employee of the Year winners from Headquarters – Mrs. Andrea Gill-Mason (2015) and Mrs. Sheldine Robinson (2016). As is customary, WZO wanted to make their visit to Jamaica a very memorable one. Both ladies had an opportunity to visit historical and cultural sites in Kingston on the eve of the DWAD. Then they ventured to the peaceful and serene YS Falls in St. Elizabeth, were staff and their quests participated in a Mini-Sports day.

On the journey to YS Falls staff participated in team assignments. This year, there were Team Augier Team Marshall. Both team competed in Cheerleading, races - relays, obstacle, 3-legged, tug-of-war, among other events. At the end of the competition, Team Marshall was declared the 2017 DWAD Winner.

After a day filled with strong competition and camaraderie, staff ventured further to the west and retired at the Royalton Negril. Staff and their guests were engaged in the various activities scheduled by the hotel.

From the feedback received our 2017 DWAD was a resounding success. A major milestone was achieved, that is 100 per cent of staff attended.
