CARICOM Competition Commission and CXC® to Convene a Regional Virtual Youth Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection Law

This year the CARICOM Competition Commission (Commission) celebrates its 15th Anniversary in 2023 and the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC®) celebrates its 50th Anniversary. The two CARICOM Regional institutions are jointly convening a regional virtual youth conference on competition and consumer protection law and policy.

The conference theme is “The Importance of Competition and Consumer Laws and Policies to the CSME Regional Integration Movement” and is scheduled for 21st November 2023 at 8.30am CST (Belize), 9.30am EST (Jamaica), 10.30am ECT, and 11.30am SRT (Suriname).

The Conference targets students completing Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC®) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination® (CAPE®) subjects with CARICOM and economics components.

The Conference will be one of the first work products delivered through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the CCC and CXC® in 2022. Execution of the Conference will be supported by the Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (CAPSS).

This Conference serves to provide a new outreach to students building on the Commission’s Regional Secondary School Essay competition in 2019/2020 on competition and consumer protection for which the CCC is grateful for the support of the CXC® and Principals of Secondary Schools.

The presentations delivered will link theoretical concepts to real world application of competition and consumer protection law and policy. Students will be shown how these concepts of competition and consumer protection are directly relevant to everyday life through easy to understand examples. The session will also highlight how competition and consumer protection law and policy support the regional integration movement and the establishment of the Caribbean Single Market (CSM) for goods and services in CARICOM.

The Commission is available to respond to any queries on the Conference submitted to competition@ccc.sr.
