Official signing of MOU between CXC® and the CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC)

Bridgetown, Barbados, 27 February, 2023 – On Monday, 13 February 2023, Dr. Wayne Wesley, Registrar and CEO, CXC®, joined Mr. Justice Christopher Blackman, Chairman of the CARICOM Competition Commission in a moment of solidarity to mark the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) and the CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC).

The MOU, officially signed on 12 December 2022, by CCC and CXC®, will support future cooperation in the development of a strong competition and consumer culture within the Caribbean Community Single Market and Economy (CSME).

This initiative targets the critical stages of educational progression of the region’s youth, through CXC’s course material at primary and secondary school levels. The proposals will contain specific learning objectives to promote a deeper understanding of key competition and consumer protection principles, including School-Based Assessment (SBA) projects for integration into CXC® syllabuses.

In addition, CCC will provide subject matter experts to serve as presenters/facilitators for online or face to face CXC® teacher orientation/training workshops and educational webinars. These initiatives will be based on the analysis of subject matter reports and professional development needs of teachers as identified by CXC®.

The CCC and CXC® see the development of the region’s human capital as a core enabler to achieving a fully integrated regional economy.
